"I speak as a tourist. I was delighted this place has dedicated, on-the-menu options – as it is apparently open late, it would seem to be worth keeping in mind for that reason. This, and the empanada's great value, lead me to give it three stars. That said, there were some oddities. I got the vegan arepa and the vegan empanada. They were both filled with *exactly the same ingredients* and the empanada was bigger than the arepa – but the arepa costs more than 2x as much. Given these circumstances, and the fact that I liked the empanada more, I can see the empanada being a great deal for a vegan looking late night or for a bit of variety. Both of them were on the bland side, however, and far from imaginative. I did enjoy the plantains in both; otherwise, it was mainly black beans and some avocado. (From the menu, it appears that their several vegan items seem mainly to be rearranging these same ingredients. The small amount of chimichurri I was given added some flavor and was ok, but did not knock my socks off. None of it was bad, and I do think they made at least the arepa fresh with decent ingredients, but there just wasn't much flavor. Finally, they use big styrofoam packaging for to-go, which is actually enough to mean I would avoid eating here again. (Not being a local, I don't know how common this is, but I know it's not even nominally recyclable in SLC and that not all places do it. Updated from previous review on 2021-09-05"

Unbelievably delicious food! I got the shredded chicken potato with cheese empanadas. I also got the shredded beef arepa and we loved it all! I would highly recommend!

I ordered the vegan empanada and Donald Watson. In my opinion, the empanada was the better of the two. I took my order to go, so there wasn't much interaction with the staff. The interior decoration was intriguing. View menu

Arempas catered to an event I was at and the food was pretty good. Beans and rice were packed with flavor. Plantains were tasty. I think the vegan “beef” was jackfruit pretty sweet and not a ton of flavor but it was good and I was happy to see they had it. Good plays to go with omnis.

After watching an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives with Guy Fieri, I made sure to bookmark this restaurant. When I found out it was a Venezuelan restaurant, I knew I had to give it a try. Although I visit Salt Lake City frequently, I hadn't had the chance to stop by until now. I ordered the pulled pork and shredded beef arepas, which were absolutely delicious and full of flavor. I also tried the fried plantains, which were a fantastic choice. And of course, I couldn't pass up a Polar beer, a delicious Venezuelan pilsner that was imported and definitely worth trying. I highly recommend this restaurant for its amazing food and location. Enjoy!

I had never tried vegan arepas before, so I decided to get a late night snack at this place when I arrived in SLC. The restaurant was crowded with what appeared to be Venezuelans, including families, which is always a good sign. The arepa was too packed with juicy ingredients to eat as a sandwich, but the taste was good. Even though another review mentioned jackfruit, the staff said they didn't use it. It's unfortunate. Be cautious with the sauces they serve on the side - two out of the three that came with mine were not vegan. Only the chili sauce was. Cholula sauce was also available on every table, so no one could complain about bland food. I would give the food a strong 3.5 rating, but I... View menu

I was very hungry, but I chose to eat something else instead of finishing my meal at this restaurant. I ordered an empanada and a patacon. Unfortunately, the cooking of each ingredient was not up to par. Everything seemed to be mushy, from the plantains to the avocado. The empanada had spoiled avocado inside, and overall the flavor was bland without the salsa. The patacon suffered the same fate and I was disappointed to find it was essentially the same as the empanada but in a plantain sandwich form. A friend had recommended this place to me, but I was let down, especially with the vegan items. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone, and I will not be returning. I perhaps made a mistak...

As a tourist, I was delighted to find a restaurant that offers a late-night menu. The value and variety of options led me to give this place three stars. However, there were some drawbacks. I ordered the vegan arepa and the vegan empanada, both of which contained the same ingredients. Surprisingly, the empanada was larger than the arepa, yet the arepa was priced at over twice as much. The empanada seemed like a better deal for a late-night vegan snack. Both dishes were on the bland side with mostly black beans and avocado, with plantains being the highlight. The addition of a small amount of chimichurri helped add some flavor, but overall, the dishes lacked taste. The large polyfoam packagin...
