"After looking forward to trying this spot for months based on the excellent reviews, my partner and I were turned away for ordering one instead of two plates of food. We were told by the owner “this isn’t fast food” and that it was “not worth it” for he and his wife to serve us a single plate, because (in an empty restaurant) we were taking up the space of two people but ordering one dish. I have lived in the neighborhood for years as well as dined around the world with some of the best and most respectable chefs and restauranteurs and have NEVER once felt compelled to write a bad review until now. I tried my best to speak to the owner and his wife to come to some sort of human understanding about why they refused service and despite explaining calmly that we had small appetites and simply wanted to share a dish in hopes of returning for more in the future, was only given the same explanation. We were simply not hungry enough to order more, and there was no disclaimer on the menu that every guest needed to order a single dish to obtain service. I unfortunately left having entirely lost my appetite which is the worst impression of a restaurant I can imagine. I am incredibly sad to say I will never return, nor recommend this “soul food” to another soul. There are better and far more hospitable ways to spend your money in Brooklyn."

What a fabulous addition to the Park Slope dining landscape. Delicious Franco-African cuisine. Abundant portions, good prices, interesting and fairly-priced wine list.

Great food. Quiet and cozy but elegant. We loved our brunch of crepe and croque masseur. Cooked to perfection, flavors were great. They are BYOB, so be sure to bring your own favorite wine.

We came here for brunch. The place has lovely decor and atmosphere and the service is great, quick and attentive! The croque madame was good, the waffle was a little bland, overall the food was fine but not something I would come back for. I would comeback to try their dinner menu. View menu

We had possibly the worst service I have experienced in memory. There was only one waiter and one person in the kitchen and there were several tables of people, all of whom waited forever for their food. It took 2 HOURS for 2 of the 4 main courses to arrive. They were trying but they just couldn’t do what was necessary to run a restaurant.

They were out of nearly half the items on the menu. Service was very unpolished. It took over an hour for our appetizer and 1 hour and a half for entrees. Prices are very high for the quality, presentation, and ambiance. When looking for a nice, quality meal on a Saturday night this was disappointing on every level. Will not be going back.

Nice, quiet place to grab dinner. The ambiance is very calm. It?s a great place for an intimate dinner. As far as the food goes, we ordered the burger and chebu jen. The burger and fried were great. I loved the chubu jen? perfectly cooked, flaky fish overjollof rice and deliciously braised cabbage. Will definitely be back to try their other items View menu

Wow. The food is amazing! Highly recommend this place for dinner. We’ve walked by several times but always thought it was more of a cafe or lunch spot. I think if they dim the lights a bit more and maybe hide the back counter, people will be more drawn to go there for dinner. Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely be going back!!!

Outstanding food, and a memorable date night. The restaurant is run by a couple, and it 's just them, so if service is a little slow, please be patient and have another glass of wine the food is more than worth it. Of particular interest to me is that it 's very fish centric; while they have meat on the menu, I eat little of it, and restaurants that do an exceptional job with fish and chicken always get a bump in my estimation. The place is quite small, so do make a reservation.

"When we called to reserve a table, no one informed us that there was a dining time limit of 1.5 hours. My friend wanted to invite more people to join us for dinner, but I was unsure if everyone would agree to the minimum charge of $60, including taxes and tips. I confirmed a reservation for 7 people during my second call, but ultimately, only 6 of us showed up. The table we were given was quite small, making it uncomfortable for six people, especially with the mandatory minimum spending of $60, as well as a 20% tip. For just two people, the minimum tip is 18%. I was confused about the dining time limit—was it two hours or 1.5? The party area was limited to just the backyard for additional seating. I was with friends who didn’t know the group well, and we arrived early at 3 PM, but we couldn’t wait until 6:30 PM. That’s why we ended up sitting at a separate table for two. Unfortunately, the restaurant didn’t seem to care and couldn’t arrange for us to be seated closer together. We had no choice in the matter. To make matters worse, the female waiter had a poor attitude. It felt like we were dining in a sidewalk market. She questioned another girl who served me ponzu sauce, apparently because I looked impatient when I saw her face. Her attitude only worsened after that. It seems like they need to train their employees better, as they seem unaware of how to provide good service. As for the food, it was just okay, typical of basic Japanese cuisine. There were too many restrictions! Customers are forced to adhere to the restaurant’s rules and limitations. I cannot recommend this place unless someone is specifically looking for a fast-food experience. In short, I don’t think I’ll be returning next time."
