"Max's on Broad is a French restaurant located in Richmond's Art District. After checking in with the hostess, we were seated. I liked how we had the option sitting at a larger table. We enjoyed the French accordion music playing from the speakers. The dimmed lighting made it an intimate and romantic dining experience. Our server Bryan came by to tell us that Thursday's is half priced wine and the special for the night was a Roasted Chicken. For drinks, we had the Pomegranate Cooler and The Sicilian. The Pomegranate Cooler consisted of vodka, Pama, lemon soda shaken, served over the rocks, and garnished with lemon. It was light, fruity, bubbly, and refreshing. The Sicilian consisted of Jim Bean rye, amaretto, sweet vermouth bitters, and orange zest. The French Onion Soup consisted of a salty beef stock topped melted aged gruyere crostini. It was too salty to my liking so I exchanged it for warm breadsticks served with garlic-herb EVOO. My boyfriend enjoyed his Grilled Duroc Pork Chops, which consisted of bone in pork chop served over potato puree topped with golden apple and raisin chutney and crispy brussels sprouts. I enjoyed the Maple Leaf Farms Duck Breast, which consisted of pan seared and sliced skin-on duck breast served over potato puree with haricot verts in a berry bourbon sauce. We finished our meal with Poached Pear Lemon Cake, which consisted lemon cake dusted with powdered sugar, topped with berry jam, served with poached fresh pear and whipped cream. The lemon cake resembled a cakey doughnut hole with a madeleine cookie exterior."

First time/last time. I found this restaurant was closing and reserved a table for it last night of service. It was on my personal hit list, and it was my last opportunity to patronize the establishment. It was enjoyable and the food was good. Only negative was a lot of items was not available on the menu.

Our server Amy was excellent and attentive. The oysters, French Onion Soup, and Filet were delicious and cooked perfectly. The Asparagus was mushy and the sauce for the filet was just okay. The scallops and Mushroom Risotto were tasty. Overall it was a great dinner and we would return, if you weren't closing in a week.

amazing French cuisine and great service! Came here with boyfriend's family to celebrate graduation and was not disappointed with both the restaurant space and the food. We sat upstairs by a window, nice private ambiance, and had a server who was very attentive and helpful with the menu, which had both French and more American dishes. Definitely recommend to everyone!

Five stars for our limited interaction... we ordered Thanksgiving Dinner takeout. The staff was kind and accommodating. My food was ready when I walked in to pickup. Turkey, ham, and all the sides. Even as takeout the food was delicious. Hoping to eat in here some day the environment (seating, lighting, decor) inside looks so relaxing and inviting. There is outdoor seating too, adjacent from some beautiful street art. View menu

This was a good spot for date night and I would come back again. Service was wonderful and everything tasted great. 1 star was docked because: even though the risotto was delicious, it was not hot when it came out. It seems like the risotto was plated way earlier than the scallops and I could tell the side spinach on the scallop dish was a salt bomb. Way over salted and a little unpleasant to eat the cheese board was a little disappointing. The amount of food was good for 2 people but for the price point, I would've expected higher tier cheese selection

I absolutely love this place. My husband and I visit Max's at least 10 times a year. I always get the short ribs plate with the sautéed mushroom and carrots. I was very disappointed this time because they were out of bread and the short ribs. I had the mushroom risotto which is so very savory. My husband had the escargot. It was nicely seasoned. He also had the duck breast which he fell in love with. I ended up ordering the pork chop and they let me substitute the sides, so I was still able to get the sautéed mushrooms and carrots (which were cooked perfectly). The pork chop was very tasty. The ambiance is great, servers and staff are friendly.

Hoping it was an off day but I brought a large group here and we all left pretty disappointed. I will say it was easy to make a reservation and our waitress handled our group well besides a few hiccups. Several dishes came out at different times. One of my guests had her appetizer and entree forgotten and she had to alert the waitress both times. I ordered the mushroom risotto starter and it was SO salty (maybe mixed up seasonings in the kitchen? . I had other people in my party try it and they agreed it was inedible. All of the other dishes were just alright. For the price point and the great reviews, we really expected a much higher quality experience. View menu

I have visited Max's on Broad two times now, and both times I have left impressed. The food is outstanding and the service is top notch. Their standout dishes are a duck breast with cranberry glaze whether medium rare or medium, it's delicious, tender inside and crispy outside. The short rib is slow cooked and is paired with a blueberry jus, aso fantastic. As to appetizers, I've tried the deviled eggs, crispy calamari and their cheese board, which are all highly recommended (especially the calamari). They also offer a variety of desserts and drinks. The service we experienced was outstanding. We had the pleasure to be hosted by Dylan, who was knowledgeable and gracious. His wine and food rec...

We took a group of visiting dignitaries from work out to dinner here, a group of 8 of us in all. I had forgotten how terrific this place really is. The visitors all loved the atmosphere and were excited by the menu. I, too, was excited by the menu, as soon as I spied duck breast! Everyone ordered a variety of things, from steak frites to shrimp and grits, and me with the duck. I also ordered a side of the crispy brussels (which I cannot resist . We also had a lovely cheese and bread plate to start the meal off right. Everyone was very pleased with their meals. My meal was lovely. The duck breast was prepared perfectly, medium rare, and served with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. It wa...

"I don’t like leaving negative reviews, but I have to say I was very disappointed in my dining experience at Adarra. It’s difficult to get a reservation there, so once I was able to, I had extremely high expectations. The drinks were excellent, so no complaints there. The food, however, was not. We ordered the toasted almonds, peppers, cheese plate, tuna belly, anchovy dish, tomato salad, and gnocchi. The almonds and peppers were good, although I have to say they were on the simpler side. The tuna belly made me think I was eating quality tuna from a can soaked in olive oil. That’s the best way I can describe it. It was a bit tough and on the dry side, and I didn’t finish it. I don’t usually eat anchovies since I’m not a fan of the typical fishy taste, but was assured that their version wasn’t fishy at all the way they prepare it. I ate a piece or two but couldn’t finish it. Soaking the anchovies in olive oil did not hide the fishy taste. Some people may like that fishy taste, but I definitely didn’t. The cheese plate was okay. The crackers weren’t anything special, and the amount of cheese was pretty minuscule. The tomato salad was actually the only thing I ordered that was delicious, and the only thing we actually finished. After being at the restaurant for almost two hours, the gnocchi had still not come out. We told our waitress we didn’t want it and decided to leave. I heard so many great things about Adarra and had such high hopes. But after such a disappointing meal that we paid over $200 for, we will not be returning."
