"I was all amped up to give this joint a five star review.... But I just can't. We were excited to find Metl on Saturday night during Comic-Con. I love the gritty vibe, the decor of old rock posters emits straight NYC Bowery vibes circa the 1980s. The music was super fun, although a touch too loud for dinner. In my opinion they should wait to turn it up that loud until after 9 PM. My fiancé and I were sitting outside and we could barely hear each other. Our server was phenomenal, I wish I had gotten her name. She made great suggestions and was very knowledgeable about the beer on tap. I really appreciated that she told me that my initial beer of choice was coming out not tasting quite right that night and she steered me towards a blood orange wheat beer, something I would have never chosen but it was delightful. We ordered the Street Corn dip and the Metl Burger. I wish I would've taken a picture of the street corn dip, it cracked me up when it came out. It looks like a giant vat of canned corn. Don't let its looks deceive you though, it was delicious and a huge portion! The tortilla chips that came with it were freshly made and still hot from the grease. That was an awesome surprise! We asked for a side of ranch dressing and thought it was also really delicious and obviously homemade. The burger is where everything went wrong for us. I was so excited to try it, the menu claims that it is wagyu and it had a truffle aioli, which basically anything truffle-related is my kryptonite. When it came out I thought it looked a bit small for a $17 burger that didn't even come with fries, but hey whatever. I did remind myself that it was Saturday night downtown during Comic-Con.... Everything is a bit pricey. When I picked it up to take a bite I was excited because I could smell the truffles, but I didn't taste them at all. The bacon was chewy like it had been sitting out, the burger was overcooked and bland and the bread seemed stale. All in all, my fiancé and I had a great time. We loved the people watching and enjoying a few beers. I would definitely give them another shot, I believe they can do better with their food and maybe another time night during Comic-Con the music would be at a more enjoyable level."

I left my sunglasses at Metl on a Saturday night. I figured they were a lost cause but went back to Metl a week later in the off chance they did have them and they did!!! Thanks Metl

This place has a fantastic atmosphere! Situated right on 5th Avenue in the Gaslamp Quarter, it's perfect for people watching. The staff is excellent, the sandwiches are delicious, and the overall vibe is relaxed. It's an ideal little bar right in the heart of San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter. View menu

The vibe was cool. Bathrooms were clean and there was seating. Located in a busy street it was one of the few places that had some cool rock music and you were still able to sit and talk with the friends. The drinks were good and not overly priced. Overall a good place to go and hang out with some friends

Unreal experience. Walked in came to the bar waited to order from the bartender to finish with the customer she was helping, looked at our group turned away and helped other customers that just walked in after us. Never acknowledged we were there. Nothing at all. So we left. This was at 10pm on a Saturday with about 10 customers in the bar.

Been to the Gaslamp district a thousand times over and this place definitely had a unique bit of charm. Small bar without feeling too tiny, wide selection of drinks without being overstretched. Cool decorations, fun bar tending staff, chill vibe. Might be my new after work spot the next time I?m in town?! (Oh yeah.. they sometimes have boozy ice cream.. aka alcohol infused ice cream! ???? The service here is excellent, and the food is outstanding. The burger slider is a must-try, and I've heard the regular-sized burgers are just as fantastic. The fish taco was good, but it definitely needs some lime to really enhance the flavor. The Elote Bowl was also very tasty, even after it had cooled down a bit. As for the mimosas, they offer three different flavors, and the pineapple one was the best!

They offer a fully stocked bar with unique signature cocktails, as well as a light menu that includes burgers, sliders, chicken wings, tacos, and salads—something for everyone! Additionally, they serve alcoholic ice cream and what they call “cocktails in a cup,” available as pints, push-ups, and popsicles. Yes, please! I tried the Birria sliders with fries, and my food arrived in about ten minutes. It was absolutely delicious—full of flavor and very satisfying. The staff was friendly, and you can easily find parking at nearby meters or in a commercial lot. I highly recommend checking out this spot if you’re looking for a laid-back place to enjoy some good food and drinks.

"I adore this restaurant. Golden Hill is filled with many many quality eateries, and Counterpoint anchors the neighborhood with it's fun atmosphere and dedication to quality. They recently renovated and the new space is open, airy and provides a variety of seating options: bar seating, restaurant seating, and upper balcony (I use this as a quiet place to WFH during the week), and an outdoor patio. I'm partial to the biscuit and gravy for breakfast, but the brined chicken and waffles or breakfast hash always makes me smile and sends me unto the world with a better outlook on life and a doggie bag. When it's hot, delicious crunchy salads are on the lunch menu and the craft beers and unique slushy flavors change. Counterpoint takes the quality of food and libations seriously. The craft cocktails rotate as the bartenders are encouraged to explore and grow. The owner and team are always warm, welcoming and make sure you have a good experience. Did I mention they are DOG friendly? Definitely worth the trip up the hill from downtown if you're looking to wind down after an event or precharge and eat before a baseball game. I love to bring my friends for a snack (try the olive selection) and chat on a twilight night. Space heaters outside if you get cold. Fans inside if you get warm. Honestly if you live in or are visiting the 92102 area code you should go to Counterpoint: good food, really good cocktails, and great company. It is clear that this establishment cares about quality, cares about your comfort and loves if you have a good time."
