"Not ready for prime time. This should have been a really great place to dine. Instead we had a brand new waitress who repeated very well the farm to table speech (we ate both lunch and dinner at Poppy) but couldn't open a bottle of wine, when opened had to be coached to pour a taste for the gentleman who ordered and then comically she left the bottle on the table without pouring in each glass on the table. She came by the table every 5 minutes and seemed intent on clearing the table even though it was evident we were still eating. She was a sweet personality and well versed in the tag line. She really needed better training in serving a table. Shame on the management for this. The food was adequate at best making it over priced. We will find somewhere else to eat when in College Station next. Should have been a really great place to dine."

The restaurant has a wonderful ambiance and delicious food. The portion sizes are just right.

Quail chicken entrees are too small for a dinner portion. We had to literally order a second entree for our guests. It was embarrassing.

The beef was overcooked ordered medium rare. Very dry. And couldn’t eat so settled for just eating Brussels sprouts. At a business dinner with my husband’s boss so I didn’t want to send back.

The service and food quality at this restaurant were exceptional. The server assisted us in choosing the perfect dishes, all of which impressed us. The menu offered a unique selection of high-quality items. We will definitely return in the future.

Very disappointed with the food. The best thing we ordered was the charred avocado and that wasn’t anything extraordinary. The prices are too high, the portions too small, and the overall taste of the food is not great. The cocktails and deserts were very good. Would come back for cocktails as the ambience is also nice but never getting food there again. View menu

I realize it’s a busy game weekend, but the service was really sub-par and not worth the expense. I’m not sure I’ll ever return. The food was good, but the service was just lacking. It took so long to get our first round of drinks and then get second drinks. Our server was so passionate about the farm to table concept and her favorite dishes... and had not even asked, what would you like to drink... and that was after it took her forever to come in the first place. Again, it was just a miss.

The staff was extraordinary, allowing us to dine when we walked in 5 minutes before the closing time on the evening of December 13. We were celebrating my son's college graduation but the event extended longer than we expected. Peyton the hostess graciously accepted our excuse and made it very special. Likewise, the rest of the staff treated us kindly despite being closing time; the manager came to the table to congratulate my son on his graduation. The food was very good, fresh and modern, and the setting attractive and cool. I will be returning to Poppy on all of my trips to College Station. I highly recommend Poppy.

"Our 5pm reservation was promptly honored on our arrival. The restaurant is in what appears to be a former airport administration building and sits nearly on the tarmac. We started our meal with a glass of local Texas winery Bending Branch Cab Sav wine. It was by far the best red wine either of us has tasted and well worth the semi expensive price. Next was Salmon Sliders and Potato Skins appetizers. The salmon was absolutely delicious. Cooked to a perfect crispiness. The potao skins were below average. They were either left over from lunch or held at a totally too high temperature post baking. Either of those will cause the edges to dry out and the potato meat to turn gray in color. The 6oz filets redeemed this one faux pas magnificently. Just melt in your mouth perfection. We had mashed sweet potatoes, cheesy grits and fruit with the entrees. My wife said the sweet potatoes were great but I never touch them so we will take her word for it. The grits were different from my usual Deep South experience but fantastic anyway. The fruit was cold, sweet and fresh. Our server, April was very well trained, beautiful and very intelligent. She graduates from Texas AM this spring. (If you cant go to Kentucky or Alabama then I guess AM will suffice. Lol) Overall Gate 12 was everything we expected and more including the beautiful view of the airport comings and goings. If we could fly anywhere in the world for dinner we would say no thanks and dine right here at Gate 12 College Station Texas."
