"I can say that I do enjoy dining here because there's a touch of Hawaii feel that makes me feel like I'm home. Service is always good. No doubt about that. Very attentive but there's times where I would have to ask for our water to be filled. Food: Filet Mignon Misoyaki Butterfish (very well known for this dish) Bacon wrapped Pork Chop Karage Calamari Grilled Salmon Edamame (ask for it -Free) The calamari is always a hit or miss. Sometimes it can also taste salty. The filet is always tender and the butterfish is always good. The pork chop was tender and seasoned well. I've had other dishes in the past so read and see my review on Yelp. The negative for me is the rice. A few times I've dined here the rice is not cooked good. Not enough water that it's hard. Coming from Hawaii and of course I'm Asian, my thoughts are you can't mess up rice. Oh well. Lastly, the cocktails, especially 1988 and Happy Hour aka Aloha Hour is reasonably priced and good menu selection. Definitely will return and highly recommended."

This Roy is now closed! So sad! Rest in peace, Hummer Potsticks. Again, they are CLOSED. Yelp is prompting me to leave a review.

Great food had la large selection of appetizers before lunch and enjoyed them all especially the Ahi and Maui Salat. We all had fun and the service was really amazing!

I visited this restaurant for dinner and ordered the Szechuan spiced pork ribs and the misoyaki butter fish, a signature dish from Roy. The pork ribs were outstanding;... View menu

Enjoyed my dinner over there. Nice menu, service and quality of food. I tried sushi roll as appetizers and it was really good. Wine selection is decent. Ordered nights special Chilean Seabass and that was yummy. Good location and have many other good restaurants and shopping on walking distance. They also have private dining room for business dinners.

Always so delicious and fresh. Just the perfect flavors. Try the veggie poke. So good! Salmon and halibut were out of this world. And the portions are perfect. Everyone of us left completely satisfied and not regretful of overeating. Bar service is great too! Whiskey and ginger beer was a solid pour and generous glass and the Sauvignon Blanc, crisp cool and perfect! We LOVE Roy's.

My husband and I have come to Roy since 2004 with the parents and girls for dinner or for celebrating birthdays and anniversaries and have never been disappointed with the service or meals. It's always great to know that if we ever want a great service or enjoy a spectacular dinner, we just have to come here. Thanks for another special meal and Charles our server who took care of us! Last night, we celebrated our anniversary at Roy's in La Jolla, and it was amazing. The seared Ahi is still my favorite dish, and the Maui Wowie Salad is incredibly refreshing and delicious! You absolutely need to try the Sunrise at Haleakala roll—it's a burst of brilliant flavors! We ended our meal with the best cup of coffee I've ever had, and to make our anniversary even more special, we received a delightful chocolate soufflé. Thank you, Roy's La Jolla, for another wonderful dinner and memorable experience!

Good food, excellent service. We had only seafood dishes and they were all uniformly good. The lava cake dessert was yummy. The service was friendly and professional, although they seemed to leave you alone for just a tad bit longer than expected. The only odd thing was the lack of many other diners. The restaurant had a lacklustre air, although the staff seemed to operate as if all was well. My previous visit was a while ago, but I recall it as a very busy and vibrant place. Let's hope this is not part of a downward spiral.

"I adore this restaurant. Golden Hill is filled with many many quality eateries, and Counterpoint anchors the neighborhood with it's fun atmosphere and dedication to quality. They recently renovated and the new space is open, airy and provides a variety of seating options: bar seating, restaurant seating, and upper balcony (I use this as a quiet place to WFH during the week), and an outdoor patio. I'm partial to the biscuit and gravy for breakfast, but the brined chicken and waffles or breakfast hash always makes me smile and sends me unto the world with a better outlook on life and a doggie bag. When it's hot, delicious crunchy salads are on the lunch menu and the craft beers and unique slushy flavors change. Counterpoint takes the quality of food and libations seriously. The craft cocktails rotate as the bartenders are encouraged to explore and grow. The owner and team are always warm, welcoming and make sure you have a good experience. Did I mention they are DOG friendly? Definitely worth the trip up the hill from downtown if you're looking to wind down after an event or precharge and eat before a baseball game. I love to bring my friends for a snack (try the olive selection) and chat on a twilight night. Space heaters outside if you get cold. Fans inside if you get warm. Honestly if you live in or are visiting the 92102 area code you should go to Counterpoint: good food, really good cocktails, and great company. It is clear that this establishment cares about quality, cares about your comfort and loves if you have a good time."
