"I have been here times and each and every time the service has been terribly slow. When I am with my kids, I prefer to go to places that can get things going rather quickly. This past time, it was a leisurely dinner so we didn't have to rush. However, we were there for hours and that is mostly because there was server and it was his first day. One server called in sick and the chef was making drinks, cooking food and helping the brand new server. I realize that this could be a one off but my friend who I was with said the last time she was there, it was the same exact situation. It took forever for us to get drinks, order our food and get our food. We sat at and probably ate at The chef and new guy were very nice but some people don't have hours to hang out. Or some people are really hungry and need to eat ASAP! of the of us enjoyed our meal and thought it tasted good. One didn't love hers. Overall, it's a cute place and sweet people with good food but the service needs to be stepped up big time. Like either have a bartender and server or have servers and have some back up plans in case someone calls in sick"

They never looked at the reservation to see that we were celebrating a birthday. Yelp has my experience written out. Overall it was poor, and we will not return

They seemed like nice people but the place was completely empty and there was zero vibe no ambiance. The music turned off and we were just hearing ourselves talk. The food wasn't great either and the server was brand new

Understaffed and not prepared for large crowd that showed up. Some left after waiting for a table. We made reservations but no one checked. Those with later reservations had to wait. Food was good along with good value for tasting menu and glass of wine. Need to get spring for front door so it will close by itself View menu

CK is new to us. We were greeted by a friendly employee. They were a little slow, but is was worth the wait! They have only been open since October last year so still working out some kinks. Our food was great, good portions for the price and the wine was a good value. The staff was all very helpful. We will go back again

Food and presentation were not strong enough to overcome the disorganization and understaffing that seems to keep this from being a success. There appears to be attention to small details while ignoring the basic need of honoring reservations, recognizing online requests and adjusting for walkins. Business model needs reevaluation

My wife and I sat down and waited almost minutes for the menu. The staff were overwhelmed due to the crown. Obviously they are not prepared for Valentines Day crowd. We decided to leave as other patrons were complaining of the long wait for food. It is unfortunate that the management didn’t have the experience and sufficient staff for the occasion View menu

I’ve been to CK’s times. The food is always delicious, but don’t come here if you are in a hurry. They are always apologizing about being under staffed, but they are super kind and appreciative. of my visits, there has only been people working — one in the kitchen and one in the house. The chef delivers the food and sometimes even takes orders, when the server is busy with other tasks. Honestly haven’t been disappointed about anything we’ve ordered — appetizers, burger, lamb shank, duck confit, pasta. It’s just a lesson in patience — good things come to those who wait

The food in CK is delicious! We’ve been there times and it is one of the better restaurants in Alameda. Service was not good. There was no ceasar salad available, and it was only p.m. Our entree was served with the comment that our appetizer “was coming.” We cancelled it. The waiter explained he’d only been there days. The pot roast needed some juice or light gravy, but was reported to be delicious and a very ample portion. The other diner liked his sand dabs and I loved the large scallops with fettuccine in a lemon butter sauce. Months ago I had the cippoline and it was magnificent! So we would recommend CK Restaurant, but they have a long way to providing a seamless dining experience

"Tasty authentic Vietnamese dishes made in a mom and pop restaurant in Oakland on the corner of East 12th Street and 11th Avenue. We got the Hu Tieu Mi Kho (Dried egg noodles), Pho Dac Biet (Beef Pho with various cuts of beef), and the Bo Kho (beef stew) that comes with a Vietnamese baguette to dip in the stew. These 3 dishes totaled about $45 after taxes. Two of the dishes (dried noodles and the pho) were full of flavor and you can smell and taste some of the traditional spices and herbs that come with them. The Dried egg noodles come with 2 quail eggs, 2 shrimp, a couple slices of pork, slices of pork kidney and liver, minced pork, bits of chicharron (fried pork belly skin), chives, cilantro, green onions, and blanched mung bean sprouts with a bowl of broth on the side. It comes with Vietnamese pickled jalapenos, sate paste, and a soy based sauce to mix in with the noodles. Was very authentic and delicious! There was even minced garlic in the dry noodles, which added another nice layer of flavor to this dish. The second dish, beef stew, although it smelled right, was more of a soup than braised stew. It was watered down (and tasted watered down too) and would have gone better with noodles. Way too watery for the baguette to really dip or scoop up the flavor. Made the bread a soggy mush. Plus there was not that many pieces of beef (they used flank with the membrane intact), and only 2 slices of carrot. We had to scoop to the bottom of the container to raise the beef, above the broth for the photo. Otherwise we almost mistook it for the container of broth for the pho. I would pass on getting the beef stew next time since the value of what you pay and flavor were somewhat lacking. Lastly we tried the pho dac biet and it was tasty with a nice balanced broth before you add the herbs and condiments (hoisin, sriracha, etc). It comes with the usual mung bean sprouts, thai basil, and sliced jalapenos with the raw slices of beef on top (for you to cook by pouring over the boiling broth). Prices are reasonable for the dry noodles and pho, but not the beef stew. While waiting for our takeout order, the husband owner kindly offered us some water or hot jasmine tea to sip while we waited. Inside of the restaurant, there are 7 tables with seating for 4 each, and a longer table with seating for 8 available for dining here. The parking lot across the street that people used to use seems to be closed/chained as a private lot now, so be prepared to find and park on the main streets or neighborhood around the restaurant. It is in a lesser part of Oakland about 5 minutes away from downtown, so be sure to lock your car or use public transit, as there was a lot of trash dumped around the neighborhood. Despite all of this, I would return for their tasty dry noodles and pho. And would be interested to try their other dishes too (minus the beef stew)."
