"My mom loves this place and anytime she's in town, she wants to go there to eat. Service is always hit or miss. This time it was a miss. Food and drinks came out just fine but when it came time for our bill that I asked for, it took asking 3 more people and 20 minutes just to get it. Back to the food; the queso was super watery and didn't even resemble what queso should look or even taste like. We didn't touch it after our first bite. The fajita taco salad was good but the enchiladas were dry. It was kinda disappointing because we really used to love this place. Maybe they were just having one of those off days. I'm sure we'll be back because this is my mom's favorite place but I can definitely think of much better mexican food to consume elsewhere in Houston. I'm genuinely disappointed."

Local joint with great menudo. We had breakfast tacos as well, hot and tasty. We didn’t get a refill of coffee which is too bad as it wasn’t crowded.

The food was so bad. I ordered the menudo and it had no taste and the portion was small. The corn tortillas were hard and cold. So bad that I asked for my money back. The staff, however were very nice accommodating. View menu

It has been a while since i had a meal at La Mexicana.. The service was slow, The food was mediocre along with a long grey Hair in it, I Ordered the Carne Guisda, Bland and with the sort of burned flour Tortillas they served. A big let down from a few years ago. I won’t be back..

Overall it was a great experience. But, we ate on the patio. Around 7 pm they cut off the AC to the patio. There were 4 tables and everyone was chatting. I know they were trying to get us to leave , but they don't close until 9. It just made the experience disappointing at the end.

Had a 20 min wait when they had a whole section empty. Food was not worth the money. I had a BYO Combo with a taco, tostada and tamale. My sister had a tamale plate and my friend had the red chilaquilles...tamales were dry, beans were already starting to turn, they forgot to give us salsa, the taco meat had no seasoning...VERY bland. My friend said her chilaquilles were not good either. View menu

The decor of this restaurant reminds me so much of Mexico, I truly love it. The hostess wasn't as friendly as one should be, she could smile a little more. Our party of 7 was quickly seated and attended to. Everyone ordered something different and we were pleased with the overall taste of our dishes. I do feel like some of their dishes are over priced. Unless I'm in the area, I don't see myself taking a 25 minute drive to come here again.

The reviews were spot on at this place. The food is just mid but service was good. Got my lb of mixed fajitas (beef/chicken) out in no more than 10 min of waiting. They have amazing chips but salsa wasn't that great. The homemade tortillas was what saved this place as well. Meat wasn't very seasoned well and I could've went to Heb to make it myself. I ordered tres leches here and I wouldn't get it again. It was kinda dried out. Overall: 3/5
