"I've gone to Ankeny's Main Street Cafe for a year now after I found it on a fluke. I drive there from Des Moines regularly because it's supremely better than every other place I eat! I cannot describe the length of their superb menu, their first-rate customer service, and their follow up with everyone who enters. The atmosphere is without any issues and always make me feel wanted as a customer and calm and peaceful. The staff is so congenial when they bring the food and always come back to see if you need anything. The food selection, prep and delivery is so delicious and served so quick you'd wonder what genie they have in the bottle back there. You won't find finer food there! The management must have actually learned leadership and management because the team all around is the best I've seen anywhere. Keep the food coming and I'll keep ordering!!"

Great cafe and bakery! We enjoyed the chicken enchilada soup and Italian beef sandwich. Their iced sugar cookies are a real treat for dessert!

This place has great food but is insanely expensive and tippifies the worst of price gouging. 3.75 for a fountain drink that costs them 5 cents.

2 Gluten Free road trippers who stopped here for a breakfast sandwich! The GF bread is HUGE you get two sausages and it’s delicious. Hard to find GF items on road trips so very thankful for them View menu

Finally tried lunch here and it did not disappoint. We love the breakfast here but the lunch is just as good! Enjoyed the Toasted Turkey Cranberry, Pepperoni flatbread, molasses cookies and the Sweet Apple Chicken Salad sandwich!

I’ve ordered from you all over 100 times over the years and never once had a bad experience. But today you guys went above and beyond for me while I’m trying to navigate a new celiac diagnosis that I’m still learning about. THANK YOU. This note meant a ton to me. View menu

Main Street is a great place to go! Everything is absolutely delicious! There is not a bad thing on the menu. But what really makes it worth the trip is the staff! Everyone is so friendly, fun (that's important), and polite. And it feels genuine not the forced we're getting paid to be. It's also great to have delivered worth the extra you have to pay.

I'm not from here, just traveling through, but this place makes me wish I was! The food was amazing and the service was great. This place reminded me of a restaurant back home, and Main Street Cafe and Bakery is honestly better than what is back home! The prices are reasonable and not too expensive. If I'm ever in the Ankeny area again, I would come again.

"I came here to alter my stars. This used to be my favorite restaurant in the whole Des Moines area, so this is hard to write. I ordered takeout from here a couple of days ago. We got online, looked at their menu and decided what we wanted. We ordered boneless chicken wings 10 tiny little bites), a side order of fries, a large margarita pizza $29! size-14x16) and a large pepperoni and beef pizza 14x16). It was $72 and some change. What the hard part is, I used the menu on their website, called to order, and the owner took my order. I get there and was told the price which was about $20-25 more than I expected. I respectfully asked why it cost so much, they let me see the receipt then, and I asked about the prices not adding up with their website and she just said, yeah, that 's our pre-covid prices. I asked why they have it that way and she said the owner doesn 't know the password to get in there to remove/change it. That is poor customer service. She did give me a verbal apology. I would have done more than that for how shocked I was. I was going to sit and have a drink while I waited for my food, but I couldn 't see spending more money. Waiting an extra 20 mins more for my food, than what they said it would be ready, was nothing compared to the sticker shock I had. I 'll post the pictures, if Google will let me. NOT worth $72+. I cannot support small businesses! I just can 't. Very sad. Service: Take out Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $50–100 Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3"

"I don't understand this place. I don't understand the great reviews. No one in our household can imagine returning for any reason. This restaurant is like an alternate reality that has nothing in common with our real world. First of all I must mention that the service was fine. Our server was terrific and provided a perfect level of service that I haven't witnessed in a while during the 2021 times of under staffing. The menu was large and impressive. I had a difficult time choosing between multiple great contenders for my entree. But that's where the joy stopped. We asked for old fashioned cocktails. We left the choice of bourbon up to their bartender. Apparently no bourbon was used because some kind of peppermint liquor was substituted. It was gross and did not constitute an old fashioned. Our two appetizers arrived for our family of four. The portions were minuscule. The size was laughable. The ten or so garlic knots were each less than the size of a quarter, some a penny. The fried ravioli arrived and there were three little fried raviolis. Are we trapped in some elf village where everything is tiny sized? This theme continued on to our entrees. The manicotti and the gyro platter were small and did not contain any side other than the simple cheap salad that preceded them. Our kids meals were even more laughable. They came with nothing else, no side, no salad, no bread, nothing other than the main item. Your kid will receive chicken nuggets and only chicken nuggets. Cheese sticks as an entree and only cheese sticks. How strange. We paid $70 for two tiny adult entrees, two tiny kid meals, two tiny appetizers, and two cocktails. If they want to have European sized portions I'm ok with it, if they would give notice. However we paid American portion prices for European sized portions of food. I can't fathom ever returning. It's a one and done."
