"GOOD NOT GREAT Murphy’s is an iconic neighborhood restaurant nestled in the heart of the inviting and very walkable Virginia Highlands neighborhood. On this warm Saturday evening, we shared the Panko crusted crab cake and vegetable appetizer, two entrees: a lobster roll with parmesan fries and the Guinness braised brisket with a side of crispy brussels sprouts, and two desserts: the tollhouse pie and the peach galette. Interestingly, the vegetables on the appetizer stole the show: fresh, very well-seasoned, a plate cleaner to be sure so our mom’s would be proud. The crab cake was indeed mostly crab, and not full of cake filling as experienced in some other mid-tier restaurants. Unfortunately, the lemon seasoning was far too heavy and overtook the taste of the crab. We had split opinions on the brisket. My wife loved it, but it had much more of a stewed taste than I would have preferred. As well, if you grew up in a Southern home and are used to generally overcooked vegetables, you will likely fine the carrots and green beans needed a little more time on the stove. The toasted bread on the lobster roll was delicious, but, overall, we both felt the lobster roll was too heavy on the celery and lacked adequate seasoning. The parmesan fries were hot out the kitchen and great for the first 5 minutes. However, once they went from hot to warm, the true taste came through as a little bland and required additional seasoning as well. The crispy brussels sprouts, though not so crispy themselves, were quite good with the addition of the crispy onions. You know how when you look at a dessert, and it looks delicious and when you taste it, it’s amazing? That was definitely true for the tollhouse pie, not so true for the peach galette. The tollhouse pie had the constitution of a high quality chocolate chip cookie, really tasty. Be sure to ask them to warm it for you. The peach galette, however, was a real disappointment. You could barely taste the peach, but instead the dominant flavor was somehow an almond blend. While the service was top notch – courteous, informative, responsive – and pricing very reasonable, it’s hard to give this iconic restaurant anything higher than a 4. The food is good, but not great. BTW – As you would expect for the Virginia Highlands area, the parking is minimal… so come early to get a space or Uber."

My cousin and I went to get a drink while in town. When I arrived I parked on the street. I walked in and was greeted. Julie was our server at our table and she was great. I ordered the lemon drop martini and it was good. My cousin also enjoyed his drink. The place was nice and next time I would like to try food.

Nice brunch or lunch spot. Wasn't pleased by the food options and the proportion but their drinks were amazing. My reason behind giving a 3 star is that my party and I had to constantly swat fruit flies during our meal and the waiter seem to be rushing us by asking if there was anything else every 5 minutes. The restaurant is quaint and cute. View menu

We went on an overcast Saturday afternoon, so sitting outside was wonderful. The food and service were good as well. The staff was friendly and helpful. This was my first visit here but I would say it probably stays busy. You can make reservations. We didn't have one and waited about 30 minutes, which was not bad....we sat at the wine bar until our table was ready.

I went here for the first time on the night of Christmas Eve. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of service we received late night before one of the biggest holidays of the year! Our waitress was amazing! She gave us her recommendations and attended to our needs promptly. The kitchen was also quick and precise! Everything was made perfectly and came out hot. I would not have wanted to be anywhere else on Christmas Eve for a family dinner. If you have not been to Murphy's please check it out...oh and the salmon is superb! View menu

Ordered an array of food earlier today, 2-25-23. Great service! Decent food! Undercooked bacon. Just okay pancakes…won’t repeat that particular item. We’ve visited on many occasions and they’re consistent for the most part. For the individual that attempted to book a birthday brunch celebration, try calling back and speak with mgmt regarding your large party. I planned a surprise party at Murphy’s a few years ago and we had the room in the back. *Note: Limited menu with deposit. Avoid the cake it was horrible, and no they will not allow you to bring your own!! We had an amazing time. *Just my two cents.

I have been eating here since the early nineties and the food is wonderful. I had the goat cheese sun dried tomato and mushroom quiche with the side salad with shaved apples and celery with mixed green and apple cider vinaigrette dressing. I also had a mango mimosa. The portions are small compared to other restaurants I have been to nationwide. It was delicious and our server was very courteous as we got the last two seats at the bar for brunch. My friend had the chicken sandwich with avocado and bacon with a side caesar salad. High demand here and you should definitely get a reservation if you plan on coming hoping to get seated at a table.
