"amazing place in the gas lamp area! we stumbled on tapas and beer in our first night in san diego. close to our hotel in the gas lamp area. our reservation was technical for outside, but our server found us an inside table (it was cold outside! start to finish it, the service and food/wine were exemplary. hubs had the paella and I had the French burger to start together with some. the mushroom brie toast was amazing how the garlic garnel and sausage. his paella was full of seafood and I said with a full mouth of the French burger, “This is such an amazing burger!!” so well we ate the left part of it to the breakfast! julia had a complete restaurant with tables, everything alone, but still made everyone feel visited and even some layers of the time she lived in France. I would highly recommend any tapas and beer!"

We love coming to this quaint husband and wife run restaurant. They are so energetic and amazing which makes our experience even better, even though the food can speak for itself. It’s a small place that can get very busy, so make reservations if coming during busy days/hours.

This is a fabulous experience in unique service, food, ambiance! Be sure to make a reservation always packed with foodies! Great for pre Theatre dinner. And, check out their frozen tap for a super cold summer beer from a large selection of fine beers. Great wine dejection, too. Highly recommend restaurant! View menu

This is our go to place prior to event at the Civic Center. Food and drinks are always excellent. Enjoyed the calamari, salmon sando, and pear salad. The service is amazing, always checking with us regarding food and additional drinks. We were greeted at the door and when leaving. Our table was ready, even had my name on the table. What can I say, probably the best place to eat downtown.

I can't express enough how incredible the food experience was. From the salads—specifically the warm cheese and peach burrata—to our main courses, which included the French burger with truffles and grilled duck, everything reminded us of our travels in Europe. The ingredients were incredibly fresh and top-notch. We're so glad we discovered this gem, and we plan to stop by every time we visit! The restaurant also offered a great selection of craft beers and a glass of Côtes du Rhône wine. I learned that the owners are from Lyon, France, which explains their deep knowledge of quality cuisine. One minor point to mention is that the lighting in the restaurant was quite bright for an evening meal...

"I adore this restaurant. Golden Hill is filled with many many quality eateries, and Counterpoint anchors the neighborhood with it's fun atmosphere and dedication to quality. They recently renovated and the new space is open, airy and provides a variety of seating options: bar seating, restaurant seating, and upper balcony (I use this as a quiet place to WFH during the week), and an outdoor patio. I'm partial to the biscuit and gravy for breakfast, but the brined chicken and waffles or breakfast hash always makes me smile and sends me unto the world with a better outlook on life and a doggie bag. When it's hot, delicious crunchy salads are on the lunch menu and the craft beers and unique slushy flavors change. Counterpoint takes the quality of food and libations seriously. The craft cocktails rotate as the bartenders are encouraged to explore and grow. The owner and team are always warm, welcoming and make sure you have a good experience. Did I mention they are DOG friendly? Definitely worth the trip up the hill from downtown if you're looking to wind down after an event or precharge and eat before a baseball game. I love to bring my friends for a snack (try the olive selection) and chat on a twilight night. Space heaters outside if you get cold. Fans inside if you get warm. Honestly if you live in or are visiting the 92102 area code you should go to Counterpoint: good food, really good cocktails, and great company. It is clear that this establishment cares about quality, cares about your comfort and loves if you have a good time."
