"The food here is undoubtedly amazing! Lots of flavor and obviously well mastered skills. Their drinks were also well made and tasted really good. On the downside, the service sucked. We were told that of we sit outside we can just take an open table and someone will be with us right away. They weren't. We waited 35 minutes without a waiter coming to us( thankfully a bus boy was around to bring us a menu and waters and when I went inside to ask why we haven't been served yet (it was busy and a weekend I get it but over half an hour just to see someone...? They just made excuses until a lady corrected them and said there is no excuse for that and someone will be right with us. When they finally came they had a bad attitude, got us the wrong appetizer and was just overall not friendly. Took 45 minutes just to have a waitress come over and say hello and grab our drinks. For an expensive restaurant, they should have better service because I could have taken my money elsewhere. Disappointed but not in the food."

Still pretty good after all these years. This is the ultimate old Portland restaurant. Mostly comfort food is served her but it's pretty good.

The food is outstanding! I ordered the famous crawfish etouffee and my wife got the crab and shrimp stuffed salmon! Both dishes surpassed our expectations, I highly recommend this establishment for your seafood dining. View menu

We had a lovely dining experience! Jake’s famous crawfish is full of history!! We had great servers who are there to show you a real experience. Servers took their time at the table to thoroughly explain the menu and the history behind the restaurant. This place is definitely on the pricier side!! But, your paying for the experience and not just the food. We were able to make a reservation on Yelp which was great for a busy Saturday evening.

Highly recommend. This place has been around for over a hundred years for a reason. We were seated in an alcove that sat 6. It is pricey. For six of us to eat, appetizers, drinks and dessert we were in well over $300. Favorites were french onion soup, fish and chips and the cod with crab and shrimp. Fish chips is lightly breaded and very tender. Not a single dish we wouldn't recommend. Historic Portland seafood right in the heart of downtown.

the food was good. we have the parmesan sole, crab cakes, crab and shrimp stuffed salmon and some fresh oysters. the sides were carrots and green beans with crushed carrots on the top. I can't stand nice and the greens were delicious tonight. I ate them all. such a great experience. our server board was so efficient and friendly. excellent customer service. such a cozy environment. I would definitely suggest a reservation. it was pretty busy when we left. so our reservation helped for 6pm definitiw. only on the bottom are the benches extremely difficult, out. very small and the edges are so high. I'll suggest a table if you might go. View menu

A Portland classic. Sat at a table inthe bar and it wasn't too busy for a Friday night but others i saw coming in had a hard time getting a seat later in the dinner hour. Cocktails were amazing. The bartenders know what they are doing and can make pretty much anything you want, perfectly. Waitresses were friendly and very attentive. Always a good selection of oysters and other seafood but the menu is on the mid to higher price range. But you get a great atmosphere, great service, and a really nice but laid back environment. Location is very easy to get to but parking, as anywhere downtown can be difficult if you need to park really close.

Food was good. We got the Parmesan Sole, Crab Cakes, Crab and Shrimp Stuffed Salmon, and some fresh Oysters. The sides were mashed potatoes and greens beans with shredded carrots on top. I can't stand vegetables and the greens beans this evening were delicious. I ate them all. Such a great experience. Our server, Brett, was so efficient and kind. Excellent customer service. Such a cozy environment. I would definitely suggest making a reservation. It was pretty busy when we went. So our reservation for 6pm definitely helped. Only downside is the benches are extremely difficult to get out of. Very small and the edges are so high. Suggest a table if you go maybe.

"Boxcar Pizza does creative all vegan pizza done Detroit style. I am from NY and had plenty of pizza there in the day before I was vegan. Pizza and NY are synonymous. I would love to check out Screamer's Pizza in NY next time I am there.I have only had Detroit Pizza one other time and happened to be vegan. It was alright when I had it then. I have been to Detroit where the talented rapper Eminem is from. Detroit is where the pinball like running back legend Detroit Lion Barry Sanders played. Detroit is where I was in awe when I saw the Diego Rivera murals there. Detroit isn't known for it's pizza yet lately Detroit pizza seems to be getting popular.Detroit Pizza is like a cross between Sicilian and Chicago deep dish yet comes in a square with four slices. Boxcar Pizza was named best vegan pizza this past year in Veg News magazine so had great expectations coming here. Boxcar Pizza delivered! I went with the Viktor Vaughn pizza. The pizza came with mozzarella, cheddar, kale, red onions, ricotta, mama lil's peppers, and pesto. I got it with a side of red sauce for dipping which I recommend. The pizza was very tasty. Plenty of flavor. It was a bit rich and filling for plenty of vegan cheese was used. Perhaps a touch less vegan cheese and other pizza pies with more veggies would be nice. I like that this pizza had plenty of veggies on it. I just got this and was able to eat it all. Each pizza serves one to two depending on your appetite. If you come with a friend or spouse might be good to split one and order a Kale Caesar salad to share.Viktor Vaughn is the real name of Dr. Doom who happens to be the arch enemy of the Fantastic Four in the Marvel Comics. Viktor Vaughn is also a British rapper. There are many different kinds of pizza here and am so happy that a vegan pizza place delivers tasty vegan pizza. I hope they open up branches in other cities.Recommended!"
