"The view is fantastic but, that is the only thing good about the place in our very recent experience. We should have known better and canceled our reservation when the person greeting us and checking us in was so rude. It was totally unexpected and unwarranted. We had gone there because escargot was listed on the menu and that was the next disappointment. None. We ordered the calamari fritti which was greasy and tasted of over used oil. We were not very hungry so we ordered the spaghetti with meatballs to share. There were two (so they were not kidding, it was plural) but, they were very firm and dry, not the least bit interesting. The pasta was al dente. The marinara sauce was not even as good as Ragu. It tasted like they had used a can of crushed tomatoes and added a bit of garlic to it, essentially flavorless. Olive Garden is better. Our server must have been new since we had to ask for bread which was less than stellar. The balsamic vinegar was nice. We also had to ask for Parmesan cheese. Nothing was was offered spontaneously. I think the San Pellegrino sparking water was authentic but for all I know they may have made it on site, given all the other disappointments. All this is okay but, it was the single most expensive spaghetti and meatballs we have ever had, coming in at over $50. Sour taste. We gave the server the benefit of the doubt and gave her a 15% tip. All in all it was the worst meal on Kauai and our last as we boarded the plane after that. We both had indigestion to round out our flight. I would give them no stars were that possible."

Called to order pizza for takeout. It was encouraging that the wait time was only 20min. That’s the end of the positives. Pizza was burnt and salty. It definitely wasn’t worth $20 a pizza. Should have gone with Pizza Hut. View menu

Food was the best part. Good Italian option in Hawaii! Service was okay, our server was trying her best in an over worked environment. The male hostess was unfriendly when we arrived and didn’t say one word to us as he showed us to our table.

The food was really good, but it took a very long time for the food to come out. The service was not great compared to other restaurants in Kauai. It felt like they really didn’t care if we were there or not. Not the usual warm Kauai hospitality we’re used to!

the service was missing. the escargot was good, nice presentation. the steak was supposed to be a ribeye, but look and texture was more like a ny strip, not impressed. the lasagne was good. good wine list with all the award points. the ambiente was beautiful with a harp player and with view of the ozean from the 2nd etage terrace. Had Fish of the day in caper cream sauce substituted veggies for what tasted like fresh made linguine. 3 other ppl at table had the Steak Shrimp Special with veggies. 5 stars all around. Had bad experience with Dukes extremely slim menu at overly high prices bad service so walked to Portofino got instant service with a smile. Food was AMAZING half the price of Duke's. Highly recommend!

my wife enjoyed an excellent dinner in cafe portofino. we sat at 19:00 in free time. the only complaint about our visit was that we waited between 10-15 minutes before the waiting staff asked about drinks. we assumed that this evening they were shorthanded by the number of employees. However, as soon as we have placed our order, the service was smooth from this point to the front. the quality of eating here has not been disappointed and was so tasteful! we will come back here definitiw.
