"I don 't go out to eat often, and even more infrequently go to fine dining establishments, but I decided to try Fairhope 's R Bistro Pastry. I know they have gotten a lot of recognition in the local culinary scene, and they are famous for their crawfish gravy. I went for a late lunch and thoroughly enjoyed my meal. I ordered the Maison salad with a side of roasted vegetables. Both were excellent: the salad was not over-dressed, and the vegetables were cooked and seasoned perfectly. I also ordered an espresso and picked up a key lime tart for my mother. I wouldn 't recommend dining at R Bistro during the pandemic if you 're at-risk because it is quite a small place. The servers wear masks, but social distancing is not easy. Their outdoor dining is petite as well, and constantly has people trekking through it to get to neighboring stores. R Bistro does practice sustainability well! They have cloth napkins and real dishware, and the to-go container that I received was paper. Overall I had a good experience. I won 't frequent this restaurant because it 's far above my typical budget, but the food is fantastic and the atmosphere is very nice. I like eating locally when possible, so next time I need some corn crawfish beignets, I 'll definitely spend the extra to come here! I do wish they had more plant-based/vegan options though."

A few years ago, we had lunch at R Bistro and Pastry, and it was an unforgettable experience. I've tried shrimp and grits at various restaurants, but none compare to what I had at R Bistro. The crawfish gravy was exceptional. I live in South Carolina, but I'm seriously considering planning a trip to Fairhope just to enjoy their shrimp and grits again!

Two specials the night we were there last week. One was steak and other was grouper with risotto. I thought I was going to settle for fish, but wanted the steak. Oh my gosh!!! The best fish dinner I've had in my 68 yrs, and the risotto with artichoke and shrimp delicious! No room for deserts but their pastries looked so good we had to take deserts with us. Midnight .....desert was amazing, too!

We were really looking forward to returning to Fairhope and enjoying a special meal at one of our favorite restaurants, but we ended up feeling quite disappointed. The noise level was so high that we could hardly hear each other across the table. While the fresh catch was delicious and met the quality we remembered, the Steak Frites (Grand) left much to be desired. The steak was cooked perfectly and could be easily sliced with a dinner knife, but the fries were a letdown; they were just like the thin-cut frozen fries we have at home. We visited on a Tuesday evening when the restaurant wasn't very busy. There were no customers sitting outside, and only a few tables were occupied inside. However, both the hostess and a waiter inquired about our reservation and responded with a somewhat negative attitude when we mentioned we didn’t have one. The hostess seemed visibly put off and informed us that we could only sit outside. We assured her that was perfectly fine. This was the only aspect that made me rate the experience a 4 instead of a 5. Fairhope is generally a very welcoming town for tourists, so this was our only encounter with such an attitude. On a positive note, our actual waiter was very friendly and accommodating....

A fantastic little place for a romantic or restful lunch. We saw the sign as we were walking the quaint city streets of Fairhope. In fact we looked through the window and just saw a small bar. We almost kept walking and the hostess opened the door and welcomed us in. We are so glad she did. The small dining room extends to the rear of the restaurant. The tables are separated far enough apart so that you can carry on a conversation without feeling intruded upon. Our waiter was quick and took our drink orders.
