"We had heard about this restaurant when it was a private club, and we were surprised to learn that it was now open to the public after reading a story in the Chicago Tribune about its upcoming closure at the end of July. Despite making a reservation, our meal was good but not outstanding. The seasonal vegetable of the day was cauliflower, but one of the florets on my wife's plate was so large that she had to use her steak knife to cut it, only to discover that parts of it were black and going bad. The biggest disappointment, however, was the lack of service. We had to wait for our server to appear, for our drinks to arrive, and she even forgot to order our appetizer. Our server seemed to be absent for most of our meal. Despite this, we did enjoy the ambiance and wondered about the fate of the unique decorations such as the plates with anvils on them, saddles, and horseshoes when the restaurant closes. It's sad to see such a longstanding establishment shutting down."

The Anvil Club is a lovely restaurant that was previously exclusive to private club members, but has now opened up to the public since the lockdown. Although they still offer private wine lockers for members in the basement, this location has a cozy and romantic atmosphere, perfect for a nice dinner out. We recently had a wonderful wedding rehearsal dinner here for a small group of 12 to 15 people in one of their connecting rooms. The restaurant also featured a skilled piano player providing live music, adding to the ambiance.
