"What a wonderful surprise! We were visiting Asheville for a couple of days and picked Modesto from the Open Table Best of list not knowing a thing about the restaurant. We feel like we won the amazing food lottery! Anna, our server, was friendly, informative and very attentive. My husband had the Sicilian Caesar which was better than any Caesar Salad he has ever eaten. The crisp lettuce was perfectly dressed with an amazing lemon dressing...fresh but not overpowering. The house made gnocci melted in my mouth enhanced by a spectacular wild mushroom sauce. the Fire-grilled Chicken piccata was not traditional in that the cutlets were cooked on a grill with the spectacular piccata sauce on the side. I only wish bread had been served so I could enjoy all the sauce. The Eggplant Parm was elevated by goat cheese and fresh herbs. My only concern is that we will never be able to enjoy these flavors again...as the menu change twice daily. I guess we will have to go again to discover new flavors!"

A very cozy place. We sat at a bar table and had the most amazing and friendly lady take care of us. She made spot on recommendations down the the AMAZING bread!!!!! Everything was absolutely delicious

We decided at the last minute to go out to dinner while in Asheville on a Friday night. We were lucky to find and get a reservation at Modesto. The restaurant itself is cozy and charming, perfect for date night. Our server Kevin was super friendly and great at going through the different menu items, all which are farm to table. Our meal was delicious! I had the Sophia Loren pasta dish that had shrimp and filet and my boyfriend had the veal chop. We would highly recommend Modesto!

Our night started off slow as Darin was evidently over-worked. He would leave the table and be gone ten minutes at a time. Did not get drinks, etc for probably minutes after being sat. Once we did have his attention, we seemed to be back on track. Food was again good and we enjoyed the items ordered: octopus appetizer, grilled romaine salad and the bolognese (sp) pasta. We had requested Brigette but she was off for the evening. Left happy but not as excited as our first time dining last November.
